*This post is from February 15th, 2012.*
So, my initial disappointment from my first doctor visit is over. I have calmed down a bit. Here is an update and a game plan.
Tuesday was an eventful day. Of course, it was Valentine's Day, and I had a great Valentine. There was supposed to be some sketchy weather, so school had been put on a two hour delay. As usual, no bad weather to be found. I am not so sure that I really appreciated the delay. Of course, an extra two hours of sleep is great, but starting at 10 o'clock on a Holiday/Party Day is a little disastrous. Passing out Valentines was an ordeal. The kids were so pumped, they couldn't contain themselves. Finally, it was time for the party. We sugared them up and sent them home. Thanks to great parents, we had LOTS of goodies. I must admit: I did partake of the said goodies. In the midst of all the chocolate and chaos, I am waiting on the most important phone call of my life.
As mentioned in the previous post, the ultrasound was blank and the pregnancy tests are not getting darker. Initially, I was panicking. So, they drew some bloodwork to check my hormone levels. Being the "Debbie Downer" that I am, I was expecting a very low number. I was told to call to check back after 10 in the morning. At 10 on the dot, I gave them a call. No results; check back at 12. So, I wait until 12. I call and no one answers. Lunch. I try again at 1, and finally I get an answer. For some reason, my labs did not come back. Figures. So the receptionist said that she would give them a call and then call me right back. I knew "right back" would mean an hour later...in the middle of our Valentine's Party. I missed the call while preparing for the party and called back. It was my midwife. Immediately, I got scared. That must mean something is wrong.
She says that my HCG levels are 834! 834! To me, that is a great number. There really is no set scale. Every pregnancy is different, but I know that is high enough. So, today I am going back for more lab work. As long as my HCG has increased significantly, things are going well. My midwife said that before anything is visible on the ultrasound, HCG levels are usually from 2,000 to 3,000. Apparently, I am just a little earlier than I originally thought. We will also be setting another ultrasound appointment today. Hopefully, in one or two weeks we can see a little Nugget and a flickering heart!
*Update from February 16th, 2012:
I had my second round of labs drawn yesterday after work. This time I went by myself since it was just bloodwork. They had to stick me in both arms because my left was being completely stubborn. I have great veins, but nothing was coming out! I have been drinking more water lately than I have any type of liquid in my life. So after having my favorite procedure done twice, I was on my merry way. Today I called back at 10, but the midwife had not signed off on the labs. Once again, I miss her call and call right back. The lucky number number is.......1,850! My HCG has more than doubled in 48 hours! She was very pleased with these numbers. My next ultrasound is on 2/23. I can't wait!

Im glad everything is working out. When I went to the doctor last nov. my levels was off. But I guess after being pregnant twice before I knew it was all good. I know its not easy getting pregnant. I mean after devin it had been 6 years. When John and I decided to give it a try it took 6 months. I believed it was never going to happen again. Then it happened. This time we was going to wait a little longer than just a year. But it happened again. but im sorta glad cause now I get to experiance children that have a close bond. Since Devin is almost 8.. he's in his own little world and don't care..lol...but this will be it for me. But I cant wait for yours to arrive and dustin and he new one will have some playmate friends.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!
