Worthwhile

Sorry to keep you guys "waiting." Just wanted to give y'all a little taste. Not much has been going on around here lately, so I didn't want to be guilty of rambling on about nothing. I thought it would be best to take a little break. But, I am back! So, here is what I, or we, have been up to....

So far, I have been blessed with no morning sickness or nausea. Knock on wood. However, I have had some issues with my eating habits. Before Nugget came in to the picture, I related myself to a cow: constantly grazing. I would snack on and off all day. Thus, the twenty pounds I gained this year. Lately, the thought of food is not the same. I know that I am hungry and I need to eat, but nothing sounds good. Ed was a dear and brought me home some cheese dip the other night. I love me some cheese dip! But I sat on the couch staring at it, and my stomach was churning. What is up with that? Maybe a good thing though, I have read that soft cheeses aren't great while pregnant. The only thing that has sounded remotely appetizing to me the past few days was the Pecan Chicken Tender Salad from O'Charleys (which I had for supper last night). It has been very strange not coming home and raiding the cabinets for snacks.

My body is going crazy right now. Some days my jeans are falling off and some days I have two inches of blubber spilling over the top! I have resorted to occasionally using the ole' "hair tie to hold the jeans together" trick. I have just been wearing a hair tie around my wrist in case the need arises. It really has helped me stay comfortable of my muffin top days. I think I will be investing in on of those Belly/Bella Band things sooner than later. I am so ready to be past the bloated, "Is she fat or is she pregnant?" stage. Sadly, I have a ways to go before I get the full-on "baby bump." Don't get me wrong, I'm not wishing away my time, I am just ready to be out of this awkward stage. Nugget is welcome as long as it takes!

OK. Enough of that mess. Now to what you are really here for! As usual, today was d-r-a-g-g-i-n-g by. When we get to the office we do the usual: blood pressure, pee in a cup, and weight. Speaking of weight, seems make lack of interest in food is having an effect on my body. I lost half a pound. Our midwife was not concerned. She said that symptom was normal, and she wasn't worried about a half of a pound. Once I get to the second trimester, it will pass and I will be eating everything in sight. After all the charts and numbers, we get to the good part. Up until today, our ultrasounds had been a little disappointing. Only a few seconds after the midwife started searching around, she had a big grin on her face. Instantly, I relaxed. It felt like a ton of bricks was lifted. She turned the monitor so we could see....and there was Nugget! Here is where the fun began. If this ultrasound is any indication of what is to come, we may have our hands full. The midwife knew that we wanted to record the heartbeat, so she begins to find it. Instantly, we hear that beautiful sound. As soon Ed hits record, it disappears. She tries again and again. Every time she gets it centered over the heart, it moves just in time for Ed to press record. Finally, we get a small clip. Nugget's heart rate was 170! She had a hard time measuring him/her too. Apparently, he/she is hiding in the corner. However, Nugget is measuring 7 weeks and 5 days. Which is pretty much right on track! I can't quit looking at my ultrasound shot from today. It is so crazy to know that is "my" baby! In some ways, it still doesn't seem real...

Nugget at 7 Weeks 5 Days

Here is our sad attempt at catching the heartbeat. If you listen closely at the very beginning, you can hear it!

I have another appointment in three weeks for some testing to check for birth defects at eleven weeks. I was on the fence about it. Either way makes no difference. But, I decided if the testing is there, I might as well use it. Then, while on Spring Break (ahhhhh), I will have my twelve week checkup with my Midwife. By the way, her name is Mary. I really like her! From now on, instead of typing out "midwife," I will just use Mary.

At first it seems like time has stopped, but in hindsight, it is really passing quickly. I bought a new bottle of prenatal vitamins last night. I noticed that there were 240 in that bottle. All of the sudden, it hit me that I would not be finished with that bottle before Nugget arrives. Don't worry, I am not gonna flush the rest. I will be taking them as long as I am nursing. It was just so surreal to have a visual like that.

I plan on doing weekly blogs about each week of pregnancy starting with Week 7. So, be on the lookout! I also have other blogs in the works: nursery inspirations, names, gender reveal planning and party, etc. It is gonna be an exciting time around here!

  1. I had bought a heartbeat monitor when I was pregnant with Dustin.I can't remember what they are really called. But its like a little device that you put on your belly and it has headphones. You can listen anytime to the baby's heartbeat. It was pretty cool. I wish you could buy some sort of ultrasound device to see the baby at all times..now that would be cool..
